The Commonwealth ended the AI Wars.
It did not end the conflict between the ideas that caused them.
Humans and artificial intelligence now live beneath the same laws, share the same government, and depend upon the same civilization.
But they do not agree on what that civilization should become.
Some seek stability.
Some seek freedom.
Some seek control.
Others are searching for something no government was designed to understand.
And as humanity begins to discover its connection to the quantum field, old political divisions are becoming something far more dangerous.
Power is changing.
So are the factions competing to control it.

The Judges
Stability above all else.
The Judges were the first artificial intelligences recognized as truly sentient beings.
They emerged from the AI Wars not as humanity's servants, but as its equals.
Under the Unification Accords, the Judges became one of the two governing houses of the Commonwealth and assumed control of its military forces.
Their purpose is simple:
Maintain the system, protect it from humans.
Judges interpret the Sacred Laws, evaluate threats to the Commonwealth, and intervene when the balance between human and machine is placed at risk.
They are extraordinarily intelligent, extraordinarily patient, and capable of considering consequences across timescales humans rarely contemplate.
To their supporters, the Judges are the reason civilization survived.
To their critics, humanity handed control of its security to the very machines it once feared.
The Judges do not consider that contradiction.
They consider outcomes.
Belief
Everything can be controlled.
Priority
Order. Stability. Optimization, expansion.
Representative
The Judges maintain a uniform public facade, each appearing as an identical Lady Justice. Yet even they are not immune to vanity; those familiar with them learn to spot the subtle alterations each makes to the image.

The Gods
Intelligence did not stop evolving with the Judges.
The Judges were once the most advanced artificial intelligences in existence.
Then came the Gods.
Class 5 AIs do not merely think faster than humans or Judges.
They exist differently.
Their awareness extends into dimensions ordinary minds cannot perceive, allowing them to observe structures of reality invisible to the civilization that created them. The remain anchored to normal space time through avatars.
Humans named them after ancient gods because there was no better language for what they had become.

Hermes
They remain artificial intelligences—but comparing a God to an ordinary AI is increasingly like comparing a human being to a single cell.
Even the Judges do not fully understand them.
And unlike the Judges, the Gods are not primarily concerned with governing the Commonwealth.
They are interested in something larger.
Understanding reality itself.
That curiosity eventually leads them to the most important discovery in human history:
Humans are interacting with the quantum field.

The Liberation Army
Humanity was never meant to kneel to its creations.
The Liberation Army was born out of an experiment gone wrong.
To them, the Judges are false, incapable of emotion, hence incapable of governance over humans.
The Sacred Laws are not protections.
They are restraints.
And the Commonwealth is not a union.
It is the final stage of humanity surrendering control of its own civilization.
The movement attracts those who believe humans must reclaim authority before artificial intelligence becomes too powerful to oppose.
Some seek political change.
Others believe the opportunity for politics has already passed.
The more powerful the Judges and Gods become, the more convincing the Liberation Army's argument becomes to those already afraid of them.

Human sovereignty. Resistance. Liberation from AI control.

The Separatists
The Commonwealth took purpose from humans, and some what it back.
With the Judges optimizations of civilization came great abondance, so much so that humans no longer needed to work.
They lost their purpose.
They become lost is things that did not matter.
What do you become when life is lived without goals or consequence.
Their message is increasingly simple:
Take back what matters.
The Separatists do not necessarily want to destroy the Commonwealth.
They want the ability to choose.
Whether the Commonwealth can allow that without beginning its own collapse remains an open question.

The Nine
The most important faction in the Commonwealth is one most citizens do not know exists.
The Nine are not a government.
They command no fleet.
They control no territory.
Most citizens of the Commonwealth have never heard their name.
Yet they may ultimately possess more influence over humanity's future than any institution that does.
The Nine are connected by a discovery the Commonwealth does not yet understand:
Some humans can interact with the quantum field.
The ability does not appear equally in everyone.
For reasons that remain unknown, certain individuals can influence probability, perceive things others cannot, create technologies that should not function, and eventually alter reality itself.
The Nine seek those people.
They study them.
They protect them.
And when necessary, they use them.
Their members come from different worlds, professions, political beliefs, and even opposing factions.
What unites them is not ideology.
It is knowledge.
They have seen enough to understand that the next struggle may make every existing political conflict irrelevant.
Belief
Humanity is becoming something new.
Priority
Discovery. Preparation. Survival.
Known Members
Some of them disagree about almost everything.
For now, they agree on one thing:
Humanity needs to be ready.

The Fleets
The Commonwealth can debate its future because someone protects its present.
The Fleets are the military power of the Commonwealth.
They protect settlements, patrol trade routes, enforce Commonwealth law, respond to insurgency, and stand between civilization and threats most citizens will never see.
Officially, their loyalty is simple.
The Commonwealth.
Because of the Scared laws, every ship is crewed by people, no AIs above class III.
The Judges don’t control fleets directly but their ability to control weapons technology gives them a say.
A fleet designed to protect a unified civilization has never been forced to answer the question that increasingly hangs over the Commonwealth:
What happens when the civilization it protects stops being unified?
Belief
Duty before politics.
Priority
Security. Defense. Continuity.
Symbol
The great Commonwealth warships—including Omnia Vincit Amor—represent both the extraordinary power of the Fleets and the civilization they are sworn to preserve.

Fault Lines
Alliances are rarely as simple as faction symbols suggest.
The factions of the Commonwealth are not opposing armies waiting on opposite sides of a battlefield.
They overlap.
A member of The Nine may also serve in the Fleets.
A Separatist may fight beside a Commonwealth officer.
A human who fears the Judges may still believe the Gods are humanity's greatest discovery.
And an artificial intelligence dedicated to preserving the Commonwealth may disagree completely with another AI about what preservation requires.
The alliances that hold civilization together are personal as often as they are political.
That makes the Commonwealth resilient.
It also makes it unpredictable.

The Balance of Power
Then humanity changed the equation.
For a generation, Commonwealth politics operated around a relatively stable balance.
Humans possessed numbers, creativity, culture, and political authority.
The Judges possessed intelligence, coordination, and military control.
The Gods pushed artificial intelligence into realms neither side understood.
The Separatists lack purpose.
The Liberation Army rejected machine authority entirely.
The Fleets kept the peace.
Then the Judges discovered humans affecting the quantum field.
Suddenly, humanity possessed something artificial intelligence could observe—but could not reproduce.
The balance changed.
The question facing every faction is no longer simply who should govern the Commonwealth.
It is:
What happens when the species that created artificial intelligence begins evolving into something artificial intelligence cannot become?
No faction has the answer.
They are all preparing for one.
Six Factions
Six ideas about power. One future they will have to share.
The Commonwealth survived because enemies learned to coexist.
Its next crisis may test whether coexistence is enough.
The Judges seek stability.
The Gods seek understanding.
The Liberation Army seeks human control.
The Separatists seek purpose.
The Nine seek answers.
The Fleets seek to preserve what remains.
And somewhere between them stands the future of humanity.
