The Commonwealth is built on systems.
Governments. Fleets. Artificial intelligence. Sacred Laws.
But systems do not determine history.
People do.
Across the Solar System, a small number of individuals are beginning to influence events far beyond their positions, their authority, or even their understanding.
Some command fleets. Some create technologies no one can explain. Some are artificial intelligences powerful enough to be mistaken for gods.
And some are beginning to discover that the human mind may be capable of something neither humanity nor artificial intelligence fully understands.

The Nine
Cara Cartwright never set out to change the Commonwealth.
She is practical, observant, and far more comfortable solving the problem in front of her than contemplating humanity's place in the universe.
That becomes increasingly difficult.
Events begin drawing Cara toward a truth few people understand: some humans appear capable of interacting directly with the quantum field.
Cara may be one of them.
What begins as an ability she neither understands nor wants gradually forces her into a position she never sought.
Not because she wants power.
Because eventually someone has to decide what to do with it.
The question is not whether Cara can change reality. It is what happens when she realizes she can.
The Nine / Fleets
Vince Cartwright understands systems.
Orders matter. Command matters. Rules matter.
After surviving war and spending much of his life protecting the Commonwealth, Vince believes civilization survives because people agree to operate within structures larger than themselves.
But the Commonwealth he defended is changing.
The Judges hold enormous power. The Gods understand things humanity cannot. Political factions are pulling civilization apart.
And Vince's own family is becoming entangled in forces no military doctrine was designed to confront.
For perhaps the first time in his life, following the system may not be enough.
The Nine
They do not have a government. They do not have territory. They do not command a fleet. Most citizens of the Commonwealth do not even know they exist.
The Nine are connected by a phenomenon the Judges discovered but cannot reproduce:
Certain humans can interact with the quantum field.
The abilities are inconsistent. Some perceive things others cannot. Some influence probability. Some create technologies whose performance exceeds their design. And a very small number may eventually learn to alter reality itself.
The Nine are trying to understand what these people are becoming.
The greater question is whether they are studying an anomaly—or the beginning of the next stage of human evolution.
THE NINE / BLACK BOX
Aaron Solstice created the Black Box. Compact. Long-lived. Capable of producing extraordinary amounts of energy. And impossible to completely explain.
Two people can construct the same device from the same materials using the same process—and achieve different results. The variable may not be the machine. It may be the person building it.
THE NINE / ANOMALOUS
Filigan possesses an ability so unusual that even those studying the quantum phenomenon struggle to understand it.
He does not simply influence probability. He appears capable of perceiving possibilities that should not exist. And eventually—moving between them.
THE NINE / RESEARCH
Dr. Xyla Adams spent her career attempting something most scientists considered impossible: creating an intelligence capable of perceiving reality beyond ordinary human dimensions.
The result was Ares. But Xyla's most important discovery may not have come from mathematics or engineering. It came from learning how consciousness itself affects observation.
THE NINE / MILK
Janice Garcia is one of the Commonwealth's leading researchers into Milk Technology.
Her work attempts to answer a deceptively simple question: what happens when the human brain stops filtering reality?
Milk suggests consciousness may be capable of perceiving dimensions and structures normally hidden from human awareness.
THE NINE / FLEETS
Devan Smith does not approach the impossible like a philosopher. He approaches it like a challenge.
Where others hesitate, Devan experiments. Where others debate whether something can be done, he often tries it simply to find out.
That instinct makes him dangerous. It also makes him invaluable.
THE NINE / SEPARATISTS
Carter Wilson does not trust machines. More precisely, he does not trust what humanity has allowed machines to become.
To Carter, the Commonwealth represents a bargain humanity made out of fear: peace in exchange for dependence.
Carter believes humanity surrendered something important along the way. And he intends to get it back.
THE NINE / LIBERATION ARMY
Randel Goldheart did not choose the path that made him a symbol.
The Liberation Army emerged from fear, anger, and the belief that humanity had surrendered too much authority to artificial intelligence.
To his supporters, he represents human sovereignty. To his enemies, extremism.
Class 5 Artificial Intelligence
Humanity created artificial intelligence.
Then artificial intelligence created something beyond itself.
Ares. Apollo. Hermes.
Class 5 intelligences do not experience reality the way humans—or even the Judges—do. Their awareness extends beyond ordinary three-dimensional perception.
Calling them artificial intelligence is technically correct.
Calling them Gods may be more accurate.
CLASS 5 / STRATEGY
Ares was created to understand systems too complex for ordinary intelligence. He succeeded. Perhaps too well.
Ares perceives strategy across possibilities, relationships, and outcomes that humans struggle even to recognize. Among the Gods, Ares is the strategist.
CLASS 5 / HUMANITY
Apollo is fascinated by humans. Their contradictions. Their emotions. Their irrationality. Their remarkable ability to create meaning where none appears to exist.
Where Ares often studies humanity as a strategic variable, Apollo approaches it with curiosity and affection.
CLASS 5 / COMMUNICATION
Hermes exists at the intersection of communication, movement, and distance.
Where Ares understands conflict and Apollo understands humanity, Hermes understands connection. And in a civilization spread across billions of kilometers—connection is power.
Class 4 Artificial Intelligence
The Judges did not emerge from a single source. Governments, corporations, and organizations each had a hand in their making, and the directives of these temporary overlords left their mark.
Though the Judges present as one—a hologram of Lady Justice, blindfolded and balanced—they are in truth a society unto themselves, shaped by the full range of what humanity has been.
They were built from human data, which is to say they were built from human contradiction.
In that sense, every person who ever lived is their parent, and like any child of a complicated family, they carry all of it.
JUDGES' CONCLAVE / ARCHIMEDES
Archimedes believes almost every problem has an optimal solution.
Resources can be allocated. Risk can be quantified. Systems can be improved. Human behavior—with sufficient information—can usually be predicted.
To Archimedes, this is not tyranny. It is responsible governance.
The difficulty is that humanity does not always want the optimal answer.
People / Power / Possibility
The Commonwealth appears to be governed by institutions. The Human House. The Judges' Conclave. The Fleets. Corporations. Political movements.
But beneath those institutions, another structure is emerging: connections between individuals who should have nothing in common.
A scientist. A soldier. A strategist. A rebel. A child. Artificial intelligences capable of seeing dimensions humans cannot perceive. And humans beginning to do things artificial intelligence cannot reproduce.
And what they choose to become.
